That is the thought uppermost in my mind as the Pars return to East End Park this afternoon for the first home game since I was appointed manager.
It is a real honour to have been selected and I promise that every effort will be made to return Dunfermline Athletic to the standing it deserves. There is no-one more keen to see those halcyon days return to East End Park and there will be no shortage of effort on my part. Of that you can be assured.
At kick-off today we are sitting in the upper half of the second division and promotion is still not an impossibility. But we all know that a lot has to be done before a quick return to the first division can be made a reality.
But although this might be an uphill struggle it is one which we will fight for, starting this afternoon against promotion contenders Queen of the South.
At this moment they would appear favourites to win this afternoon's tussle but the Pars know what has to be done. We will never get promotion without picking up points and two today will be just fine.
Since I became caretaker manager following the resignation of Tom Forsyth last month we cannot be accused of too bad results. Since being beaten 3-1 by Queens Park at Hampden we have drawn against East Stirling and Berwick with a win up at Montrose.
Four points out of eight is hardly promotion stuff but it will be improved upon.
To help improve on the overall position I have signed several new players who will add a balance of youth and experience to the first team pool. This will be coupled with new faces in the backroom staff.
But the main thing is the over-riding desire to do well among everyone here at East End Park. The suggestion that a new era might be just around the corner is one which we all hope can be turned into the turth.
It is only a matter of time during which we hope to have your continued support. We will try not to let you down.
