Former Scotland youth international goalkeeper, Ian Westwater had the distinction of playing in the Premier league at the age of 16, for his first club, Hearts. He moved to Dunfermline in March 1985, for a fee of £4,000 and had soon replaced club captain, Hugh White, in goal.

Westie was a regular in the team which won promotion from the Second Division to the Premier League in successive seasons, but injury was to curtail his appearances during that first season in the Premier. He was to return and play a full-part in the First Division championship season of 1988/89.

In 1991, the introduction of new keeper, Andy Rhodes, was to see Westie lose his regular first team place, and it wasn't long before he moved to Falkirk and then Dundee.

Returning to the Pars in 1994, Westwater has seen the coming and going of several rivals for his Number 1 jersey. Injury in the first match of last season saw him lose his place to new signing, Lee Butler. However, after a year in the reserves, Westie has found himself back in favour this year.
